My Story

I was a normal weight until the age of 14, when I hit puberty. My weight suddenly shot up, and by the time I was 16 I weigh 16 stone and wore a UK size 18/20. At 19 I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Though it began to make sense to me why I gain weight so quickly, by this time I suffered with depression.  I found it tough being the biggest girl in my Fashion College and designing size 10 clothes everyday that I could never fit into. Coupled with my comfort eating by the time I was 20 I weighed 25 stone and wore a UK size 30/32.

 

My depression worsened as I left college and started looking for work in the fashion industry as a 25 stone woman. Rejection after rejection letter, I concluded my weight was a big part of my inability to gain employment in the industry. It was at this time I developed Bulimia, trying to control my weight and get quick results, or so I thought! Never losing any weight by the time I got my first job, and confidence boost, as a fashion writer I had grown out of purging!

 

Still 25 stone I finally wanted to do something about my weight, so I began dieting, only eating 600 kcal's per day and joined my local Fitness First gym. Adding 3hr workouts with eating only 600 kcal's per day I lost 8 stone in the matter of months. And ended up getting a job at the gym, however as soon as I added working 9hr days to the mix I couldn’t physically maintaining eating so little. I began eating the wrong things and working out less and by the time I left the company at 29 I had gained back 3st.

 

Though I was 19st again, at this point I had spiritual breakthrough and found God, who guided my through the first stages of my change. I changed careers and went on to pursue my dreams of filmmaking. I forgot about weight over the next two years passionate about my dreams being realised career wise. Unfortunately I had no access over this time to a gym and wasn’t as active, on a trip to Spain, and after not weighing myself for a year, I was 23 stone again!

 

This devastated me and I began praying on it a lot! My prayers were answered when I ran into an ex -colleague of mine who managed the local Fitness First.  He motivated me to come back to the gym, and showed great support knowing how long I had been struggling with weight. Back at the gym again and this time I felt depressed I knew I wanted a real change to happen this time.  My first two months back at the gym I went backwards slightly to old methods of under-eating and over-exercising. 

 

I lost 2st this way, but my body was telling me under-eating and even 'dieting' was not going to work long term and actually is damaging!  

 

As one day I was working-out on the treadmill, on an empty stomach, and with not a lot of nutrition taken in the day before. I became very ill, light headed and vomited. The Member Service Manager at the gym took me aside worried about what I was doing to lose weight! She made me an appointment to speak with the Health and Fitness Manager and get some real advice. Not being one to normally look for help I decided to actually go along and listen, as I truly wanted a real change! His advice sat well with me, though it wasn’t the easiest of conversations I needed to hear the truth about healthy weight-loss, fitness and how to keep it off not just lose weight quickly.

 

In 80 weeks I lost 11 stone and i've lost nearly 13 stone overall. I went from a UK size 30/32 to a size 10/12, but size isn't everything as before starting my weight loss joinery I could barely walk 1km and now I run 3 times a week for 5km. I have received lots of attention from the UK National Press because of my massive weight-loss and unique story. Since then I have started a Youtube Vlog on Health and Beauty, and am conducting Lecture's on healthy weight-loss at Gyms and for Weight-loss groups nationally.
